Killing two birds with one stone. Oh wait, one bird was already dead.

You’re driving along, minding your own business when suddenly you see those red and blue lights flashing in your rearview mirror. Oh no, it’s the po-po. The officer knocks on your window. You think you’re toast. And then… he presents you with a frozen Albertsons turkey.

Sound odd? Twenty lucky motorists in Billings, Montana, probably thought the same thing when it happened to them on Wednesday.

In an act of ironic kindness, the Billings Police Department decided to kill two birds with one stone by distributing 20 Thanksgiving turkeys while performing their routine traffic stops. During their stops for the day, the officers checked to see if drivers had any outstanding warrants. If they did not, they issued a written warning and a frozen Thanksgiving turkey. Surprise!

The turkeys were donated by a local businessman who asked that they be handed out before the November holiday.

One man was interviewed by the Billings Gazette after being pulled over for failing to use his turn signal. Surprised and delighted by his poultry present, he joked that he might just have to try for a second turkey by pulling a U-turn in front of the officer.

Whoah there; pump the breaks, buddy! Don’t push your luck! You never know, Matthew McConaughey might show up at your door tomorrow with another one.
