Cement mixers are pretty fascinating things. They drive; they spin; they spit out perfect cement. But what would happen if they spit out perfect cocktails instead?
The world is about to find out, as the makers of Monkey Shoulder blended Scotch whisky set out on the roads of America with the ultimate party rig: a cement mixer-like truck loaded with a massive, spinning, 2,400-gallon cocktail shaker and a 2,000-watt sound system.
The “Monkey Mixer” will make its debut this President’s Day Weekend (February 17th to 19th) at Arizona Cocktail Weekend, where it will be serving up a signature “Mixed Monkey” cocktail. The truck will visit other cities throughout the year.
The truck is the latest of Monkey Shoulder’s attempts to add some cheek to the perception of Scotch, which can often seem too expensive and sophisticated for many drinkers. Past gimmicks have included a telescoping bar spoon, dubbed the “iSpoon,” and the "Konga Shaker."
"Many consider whisky sacred and precious,” said Monkey Shoulder’s US Ambassador, Seb Derbomez. Many take their cocktails very seriously. We respect that, but believe people should play with their whisky, and enjoy the experience."
Can’t make it to Arizona, or just too excited to wait for the truck to visit a city near you? You can make the Mixed Monkey cocktail at home by mixing together 1.5 parts Monkey’s Shoulder blended Scotch, 0.75 parts mint simple syrup and 0.5 parts lemon juice. Top it all off with 3 parts of seltzer, then garnish with a sprig of mint.
Giant cocktail truck not included.
