What’s the deal with all this dill?
A nation obsessed with the kosher pickle is about to get another crunchy taste, as KFC prepares to release its new, limited-edition pickle fried chicken.
This mashup between Colonel Harland Sanders’ legendary chicken recipe and the legendary New York deli cuke isn’t quite as complicated as it might sound. Customers raved after KFC started making sandwiches with dill pickles on them, so the company crafted a dill-icious sauce for even more pickle flavor.
The sauce takes the required dill and vinegar flavor profile and complements it with onion, garlic and both white and black pepper, and mixes it up with a creamy buttermilk base.
Starting on June 25th and lasting as long as the sauce does, fried chicken fans can order the pickle fried chicken sauce on top of chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders and regular old fried chicken.
“Pickle-flavored products are becoming today's trendiest menu item,” said KFC’s chief of marketing, Andrea Zahumensky, in a statement. “Our guests have been clamoring for more pickles, so we're giving them what they want by coating our ‘Extra Crispy Chicken’ with a mouthwatering pickle sauce that delivers a craveable punch of pickle in every bite!”
KFC’s trend awareness has surfaced recently in the form of a fried chicken and waffles Double Down sandwich. Before that, the chain picked up on the explosion of interest in Nashville Hot Chicken by taking it and making it available across the U.S.
Want to take your dill-filled fried chicken on the go with you? The KFC “Bucket Björn” is your best bet for odd and ingenious pickle protection.
