January, Salt Bae

Since that fateful viral video, no one could escape Nusret Gökçe’s (a.k.a. Salt Bae) seasoning skills. And honestly, we’re not mad at it. From causing an Internet meltdown to becoming a sorta real celebrity, Gökçe has taken the world by storm. If this year has left you feeling a little salty, just think of Salt Bae and let your troubles melt away, preferably into steak.

February, Beyoncé’s Twins

Is there anything Beyoncé can’t do? Of course not. Queen Bey blessed the world with her iconic maternity photo shoot, and we’re still shook. Did we forget to mention it was also Instagram’s most-liked photo for the year? Further proving our theory that Bey can do it all.

April, The Handmaid’s Tale

From best-selling novel to hit show, The Handmaid’s Tale has taken over pop culture. If there’s one lesson we’ve learned from it, it’s don’t underestimate the red hood. Blessed be the fruit.

May, Wonder Woman

Meet the gingerbread woman who kicks all sorts off ass — Wonder Woman. Dominating box office records this summer, the first women-led superhero movie has left the world wanting more. Guess we’ll all have to wait for the sequel in 2019. In the meantime, there’s gingerbread.

June, Dancing Hot Dog

You know you’ve made it if you become a Halloween costume. Snapchat debuted its infamous filter this summer, and it had some serious moves. The dancing hot dog is everything we didn’t know we needed in life.

November, Astros win World Series

Pop culture had a huge year but so did baseball. The Houston Astros took home their first World Series title this year. Congrats, H-Town!
