Ingredients
Crust
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 1⁄3 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1⁄2 cups flour
- 4 1⁄2 teaspoons cocoa
Filling
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 8 ounces flaked coconut
Frosting
- 1⁄2 cup milk
- 2 cups sugar
- 1⁄2 cup shortening
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Directions
- Crust: Cream shortening and sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
- Add remaining crust ingredients, mixing thoroughly.
- Bake in 15 x 10 x 1-in.
- jelly roll pan for 20 minutes at 375.
- Filling: Combine sweetened milk and coconut.
- Spread over baked crust.
- Broil until lightly browned.
- Cool completely.
- Frosting: Bring to rolling boil milk, sugar and shortening, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Continue to stir until mixture reaches spreading consistency.
