  1. Scald milk and cool to lukewarm.
  2. Add salt and shortening.
  3. Mix honey and yeast in mixing bowl; let stand until yeast is dissolved.
  4. Add milk and one half the flour.
  5. Beat thoroughly.
  6. Gradually add enough flour to make a soft dough.
  7. Turn out on floured board and knead until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  8. This requires about 10 minutes.
  9. Place in slightly greased bowl and let rise until double in bulk.
  10. Punch down lightly and let rise again.
  11. Form into loaves.
  12. Place in greased pans.
  13. Allow to rise until double in bulk.
  14. If baked in individual loaves (one pound), bake 40 minutes at 375°.
