Velvet Cake

This recipe was shared to me by another woman when she was trying to teach me to cook. Very simple but very delicious! NOTE: I used two one ounce bottles of food coloring to give it a bright red look. You can only use one. Show more

Serves: 6-8

Yields: 1 double layer cake

Directions

  1. Combine Dry ingredients (first 5 ingredients) into one large bowl and mix well.
  2. Combine Wet ingredients (Except Food Coloring) into another and mix well.
  3. Pour Wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix together well.
  4. Add food coloring slowly (as it will sit on top of the mixture its wise to add slowly).
  5. Pour into 2 8" or 9" greased pans (8" in work better but 9" came out well).
  6. Bake at 350 Degrees for 30 minute.
  7. Allow to cool before adding frosting.
