Vegemite Toad in the Hole

Another Vegemite Recipe for those Vegemite lovers out there!! I did not use as much cheese as stated but have posted this (Kraft) recipe as written, but it doesnt get any more Aussie for breaky than this one. Show more

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 8  slices  wholemeal  bread
  • 20  g butter
  • 3 -4  teaspoons vegemite
  • 1  cup  tasty cheese, grated
  • 4  eggs

Directions

  1. Cut a 5cm round hole from the centre of each slice of bread using a biscuit or scone cutter and reserve for another use such as breadcrumbs.
  2. Spread one side of each slice with butter and Vegemite, then place buttered side up on a paper lined baking tray.
  3. Sprinkle ¾ cup of the cheese over the bread then top each with another slice of bread. Crack an egg into each hole. Sprinkle over remaining cheese.
  4. Bake in a hot oven 200°C for 15-20 minutes or until egg is cooked and cheese is golden. Serve immediately.
