Vanilla Ice Cream

This is a good old-fashioned recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1  quart milk
  • 4  eggs, beaten
  • 2  cups sugar
  • 1  pinch salt
  • 1  quart  cream
  • 2  tablespoons vanilla (or more)

Directions

  1. Scald the milk.
  2. Add the sugar, beaten eggs, and salt.
  3. Cook over medium heat until it coats a spoon.
  4. Cool slightly.
  5. Add the cream and vanilla.
  6. Chill thoroughly.
  7. Freeze according to your ice-cream-maker manufacturer's directions.
