Turkey Cranwiches

This is from an old Betty Crocker holiday cookbook that I have, dated 1996. It's delicious and a nice change of pace as far as sandwiches go. I was unable to find cranberry-orange sauce so I used whole berry cranberry sauce instead. I also just use turkey lunch meat. Show more

Yields: 4 sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 4  slices colby or 4  slices monterey jack cheese or 4  slices cheddar cheese
  • 12 cup  cranberry-orange sauce or 12 cup  relish
  • 12  ounces  thinly sliced  cooked turkey
  • 8  slices  firm-textured  wheat or 8  slices  rye bread
  • 2  tablespoons margarine or 2  tablespoons butter

Directions

  1. Layer cheese, sauce and turkey on 4 slices of bread. Top with remaining bread. Spread top slices of bread with half of the butter.
  2. Place sandwiches, butter sides down, in 10-inch skillet. Spread top slices of bread with remaining butter. Cook uncovered over medium heat about 5 minutes or until golden brown. Turn and cook other sides about 2 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is melted.
