The Best Dang Apple Crisp Ever!
Ready In: 1 hr 20 mins
Serves: 8
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3⁄4 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1⁄2 cup softened butter
- 3 large apples, cored, peeled, and sliced into wedges
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- cinnamon
Directions
- I recommend peeling, coring, and slicing your apples before you preheat your oven!
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in the butter until the mixture is consistently crumbly. Press half of the crumble mixture into a greased 9 inch square or round baking dish. Cover evenly with the apple slices. I like to sprinkle a little extra cinnamon over the apples slices!
- In a small sauce pan, combine sugar, cornstarch, water, and vanilla. Bring to a boil, and then cook and stir for about 2 minutes. The filling should be thick and gooey! Don’t skip the cornstarch- it is what gives the filling its thickness.
- Pour the filling over the apples, and then sprinkle the rest of the crumble mixture over the top. Bake for one hour. The apples will be soft and the topping crispy. You can enjoy it warm with ice cream, or even just by itself!
