Tex-Mex Burgers

Yields: 6 sandwiches
Ingredients
- 1 medium chopped onion
- 1⁄3 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 2 tablespoons lard
- 1⁄2 lb ground chuck
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1⁄2 cup water
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 (15 ounce) can pork and beans
- 6 toasted hamburger buns
Directions
- Saute onion and bell pepper in lard about 5 minutes or until tender.
- Add beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
- Add tomato paste, water, salt and pepper, chili powder and can of pork and beans.
- Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Serve on toasted buns.
