Tasty Apple Galette

This is another recipe that I haven't tried yet, but I do love anything with apples, and this is another that sounded so good, it's certainly on the to-do list!! Show more

Serves: 12-16

Ingredients

  • 1 12 cups flour
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • 12 cup  cold butter (no substitutes)
  • 6 -7  tablespoons cold water
  • 4  tablespoons sugar
  • 6  medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3  tablespoons butter or 3  tablespoons margarine, melted
  • 14 cup  apricot jam
  • 1  tablespoon water

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour and salt; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle with cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and toss with a fork until the dough can be formed into a ball.
  2. On a floured surface, roll dough into a 13-inch circle. Place on ungreased 12-inch pizza pan; turn edges under. Sprinkle crust with 2 tablespoons sugar.
  3. Beginning at the outside, arrange apples in a circular pattern, overlapping each slice. Make a second circle, facing the opposite direction.
  4. Continue alternating directions until crust is covered. Brush apples with butter; sprinkle with remaining sugar.
  5. Bake at 400°F for 40-50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and crust is golden. Combine jam with water ; brush over apples , serve warm.
