Sweet Onion Baubles

This is another one of those side dishes that looks beautiful on the plate next to some delicious meat and potatoes... SO simple to cook and even more tasty to eat, try them at BBQs or at dinner parties... These are also FANTASTIC to serve at your Christmas dinner table - they are essentially Christmas baubles! You CAN use shallots or white oinions but I find the red to be best as they are a little sweeter... Let me know any thoughts or improvments!!! Show more

Directions

  1. Peel the onions and chop them in half, make sure you cut the ends off carefully and then slice them vertically so that each of your halves have a cross section of each end included - basically you don't want the onion to fall apart on you so you need to cut it in half top to tail and try to keep it in once piece!
  2. Pop the onion halves into a roasting dish into which has already gone 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  3. Sprinkle the rest of the oil, the sugars and the vinegar over the top.
  4. Give the dish a little shake to loosen it up.
  5. Pop in the over on a medium heat for about 20 mins, but CHECK every 5 minutes to give the tray a little shake and ensure the oinions are NOT burning.
  6. Remove from the oven, pop straight onto the plate or a serving dish and pour the leftover syrup over the tops before serving.
