Sunflower Sugar Cookies

This is a little different then your ordinary sugar cookie. The addition of ground sunflower seeds gives it that extra flavor that makes people think twice about this cookie. I got this recipe from the 4-H cookbook from our area. Prep and cooking time does not include the refrigeration time.

Ingredients

• 3  cups flour
• 1  cup  ground sunflower seeds
• 1  teaspoon baking soda
• 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
• 1  teaspoon baking powder
• 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
• 1  cup shortening
• 3  eggs, beaten
• 1  tablespoon milk
• 2  teaspoons vanilla
• 1  teaspoon  lemon flavoring

Directions

1. Mix and sift dry ingredients.
2. Cut in the shortening.
3. Add mixture of beaten eggs and milk.
4. Add flavoring.
5. Allow to sit in refrigerator for at least an hour.
6. Roll out on floured board, 1/4 inch thick.
7. Cut our with cutters.
8. Place on greased baking sheet at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes.
