Sugar and Spice Cookies

 The secret is to roll these in powdered sugar after baking, when cool. They are chewy and perfect! Show more

  1. Mix together shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. I use an electric hand mixer to get the shortening smooth and to incorporate the egg into the other ingredients.
  2. Sift together soda, salt, spices and flour.
  3. Mix shortening mixture and flour mixture together.
  4. Chill 2 hours or more.
  5. Using 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough, make into balls.
  6. Place onto ungreased cookie sheet about 2- inches apart.
  7. Cookie will flatten and spread out.
  8. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes.
  9. Place on cookie rack to cool.
  10. When cool, roll into powdered sugar.
