Ingredients
- 1 1⁄2 lbs beef, ground
- 1⁄4 cup onion, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt, to taste
- 1⁄4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- 1⁄4 cup dry breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
POSSIBLE FILLINGS
- dill pickles or pickle relish
- catsup
- onions or tomatoes, slices
- cheddar cheese, slices
- prepared mustard
- horseradish
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- American cheese
PEPPY CHEESE FILLING
- 1⁄4 cup American cheese or 1⁄4 cup cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1⁄2 teaspoon prepared mustard, yellow or Dijon
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or 2 tablespoons salad dressing
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 3 ounces canned mild green chilies, chopped
- green chili, to taste (whatever you prefer) (optional)
- jalapeno, to taste (if you like) (optional)
Directions
- Mix all ingredients except the fillings.
- Shape mixture into 12 thin patties, each about 3 1/2-inches in diameter.
- Top each of 6 patties with a filling, spreading to within 1/2-inch of the edge.
- Cover with a remaining patty, sealing the edges firmly.
- Broil or grill patties 4-inches from the heat, carefully turning once, to the desired doneness, about 10 minutes.
- PEPPY CHEESE FILLING: Mix all ingredients.
