Squash Casserole

My grandfather was a superb cook. He made this recipe up at least 27 years ago since he died in 1977. This is one of my favorites and I take it to whatever gatherings that I need to bring something. There's never any leftovers and I'm asked for the recipe.

• Yields: 1 casserole

Ingredients

• 1  lb squash, cooked and mashed
• 1⁄4 cup butter
• 1⁄2 cup milk
• 3⁄4 teaspoon salt
• 1  tablespoon sugar
• 3  eggs, beaten
• 3⁄4 cup  cracker crumb
• 2  cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
•  salt and pepper

Directions

1. Mix all ingredients well.
2. cook in 1 1/2 quart casserole dish at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until firm.
