Spinach and Garbanzo Bean Soup

Ingredients
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1⁄8 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 (14 ounce) can chopped tomatoes
- 1 (14 ounce) can chicken broth
- 1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 lb fresh spinach, washed and chopped
- 4 scallions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
Directions
- In a large saucepan, cook bacon, onion and garlic over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until bacon renders its fat and onion begins to brown, 5 minutes.
- Add cumin and allspice, and cook, stirring, 1 minute.
- Add tomatoes and chicken broth, cook 5 minutes.
- Add garbanzo beans, spinach, scallions, worchestershire, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover and cook, 30 minutes.
