Spice Cookies

Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1 1⁄2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 cup molasses
- 1⁄2 cup sour milk
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon powdered ginger
- 1 teaspoon powdered clove
- 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder
- flour, to make a stiff dough
Directions
- Beat eggs five minutes, then add sugar and beat five minutes, then add vegetable shortening.
- Beat until thoroughly mixed, add molasses, milk, soda, salt, spices, baking powder, and enough flour to make stiff dough.
- Leave mixture in basin overnight.
- Take pieces of dough and roll out, cut with small cutter, lay on vegetable shortening greased tins and bake in moderate (350) oven from seven to ten minutes.
