Spaghetti Squares

Source: a really old issue of Canadian Living. A slightly different twist on lasagna.

  1. Break spaghetti in half. Cook in boiling salted water for 10 minutes or until tender. Drain.
  2. Meanwhile, brown ground beef.
  3. Add onion, garlic, green pepper and celery; cook until soft.
  4. Add oregano, basil, tomato sauce, and salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
  6. Spread half of spaghetti in a greased 8-inch square baking dish.
  7. Spoon half the sauce over the top.
  8. Sprinkle with cottage cheese, then half the mozzarella and Parmesan.
  9. Add remaining spaghetti, remaining meat sauce, and top with rest of cheese.
  10. Bake at 375 F for 20 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
  11. Let stand 5 minutes.
  12. Cut in squares to serve.
