Soft Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup shortening
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon nutmeg
Directions
- Cream sugars, shortening, eggs, beat. Add flour, salt, baking powder and nutmeg. Alternately with buttermilk in which soda has been dissolved.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour. Roll and cut and drop on greased cookie sheet and press down with a wet cloth over a glass. Dip cloth in dish of sugar before pressing cookie.
- Bake in oven at 350-400 for 8-12 minutes.
