  1. In a large bowl, cream butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar and gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar.
  5. Shape dough into 1 inch balls and roll in cinnamon sugar.
  6. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375 for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
