Slow Cooker Swiss Steak

I got this from a magazine recently, I think it was Paula Deen's magazine. I've never used tomato of any kind in my Swiss Steak, but after I made this DH and I both decided we always want it this way! I serve this with mashed potatoes, but it will go well with noodles or rice, too. Show more

Serves: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 1 12 lbs  round steaks, cut in 1-inch pieces
  • 1 (8 ounce) package  sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1  cup  sliced onion
  • 1  cup  siced celery
  • 1  tablespoon  minced garlic
  • 1 (14 1/2ounce) can  fire-roasted tomatoes
  • 8  ounces tomato sauce
  • 12 cup water
  • 1 (7/8ounce) package  brown gravy mix
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  1. In 4 to 6 quart slow cooker, combine steak, mushrooms, onion, celery, and garlic.
  2. In medium bowl, combine tomatoes, tomato sauce, 1/2 cup water, gravy mix, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pour over steak mixture. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours.
