  1. remove stems from mushrooms.
  2. finely chop stems.
  3. start browning the sausage.
  4. add in chopped stems the last few minutes.
  5. add garlic if desired.
  6. drain sausage and mushroom mixture.
  7. mix with softened cream cheese.
  8. spoon mixture into mushroom caps.
  9. broil for five minutes or until browned.
