Simple Stuffing

My mom's in-the-bird turkey stuffing recipe. I've tried several times to make this separately, but it always comes out dry whether I cover the pan with foil or not. If anyone can keep this moist outside of the bird, please drop me a line! Preparation time is the time to dry the bread slices, so disregard if you are using storebought croutons. Show more

Serves: 8-10

Ingredients

  • 5  cups  dried bread (15-20 slices. I usually lay the slices out on my oven racks overnight with the oven door slightly aj)
  • 4  tablespoons  chopped onions
  • 1  teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 14 teaspoon sage
  • 13 cup  melted butter
  • 1 12 cups  chopped celery
  • 1  cup hot chicken broth (or water)

Directions

  1. Cube dried bread.
  2. Add all remaining ingredients except hot broth.
  3. Only add enough hot broth to moisten stuffing.
  4. Stuff turkey and roast as you normally would, making sure to follow cooking times for a stuffed bird.
