  1. Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and spices. Add raisins, nuts, and oatmeal. In another bowl, cream shortening, add sugar, then egg. Add dry ingredients alternating with the milk. You may need a little more milk. The dough should be uniformly moist yet stiff. Scoop out with a small scoop onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment.
  2. Bake in a 400 degree oven for about 12 minutes. These cookies do not spread, so if you want them to be flat, press them with your fingers before baking.
