Savory Saucy Pasta

This recipe came about from being creative with frugality. This can easily be prepared in about 30 minutes or less and can accompany meat if you wish. Just a little twist on traditional pasta dishes and you can prepare in ONE pan! Use broth to rinse out sauce jar to get every last drop. This recipe does yield quite a bit so you could half it or double it depending on your crowd. Because this recipe is so simple it could easily be a base for many different kinds of pasta, meats, and vegetables. Show more

  1. Using a 4 or 6 quart saucepan, saute onions, carrots, garlic, and celery in the cooking oil until slightly tender, about ten minutes, over medium low heat.
  2. Add pasta sauce, broth or stock, dried herbs, chili powder, and bay leaf into pan and stir well. You could also add a teaspoon of sugar if you like your sauce a little sweeter.
  3. Bring mixture to a light boil.
  4. Add pasta of your choice to saucepan and cover.
  5. Turn heat down to simmer slowly, stirring occasionally making sure to keep pasta moist.
  6. Let simmer 15-20 minutes or until pasta is tender.
  7. Remove bay leaf and serve.
