Ready In: 3 hrs 20 mins
Serves: 4-5
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut up
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 2 large onions
- 5 small potatoes
- 5 carrots
- 1 head garlic
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tomatoes, ripe whole
- 1⁄4 cup dry white wine
- 1⁄2 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1 cup boiling water
Directions
- remove skin from thighs and drumsticks, leave the skin on the breasts.
- wash and dry the chicken (I use an old towel) and sprinke with salt and pepper.
- chop onion, carrot and potato coarsly.
- wash the garlic head and trim a bit off the top and bottom without breaking it apart.
- heat the oil well and lightly brown the onion on a strong flame in a large shallow skillet or sautage.
- add the carrots, and continue to cook until carrots get a bit of a golden edge.
- turn on the slow cooker on high and set for 3 hours, then transfer the onions and carrots to it.
- sprinke some salt and pepper over the vegetables and give them a stir.
- add bayleaves, garlic and tomato.
- without washing the pan from the vegetables, brown the chicken pieces in it.
- transfer the chicken to the slow cooker.
- discard fat from the pan.
- pour the wine in the pan while pan is still hot and transfer the the liquid into the slow cooker.
- sprinke paprika over chicken.
- add boiling water carefully on the side so the paprika doesn't wash off the chicken.
