Sausage & Seafood Gumbo

The base of this recipe came from my mom but I added my own tweaks to it. It's restaurant-worthy!

Directions

  1. Dice and sauté bacon in the pot you plan to use. Add onion, bell pepper, celery and sauté about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes and broth. Cook till all vegetables are soft (about 30 minutes).
  2. Add all the meats (starting with shrimp), okra and rice.
  3. While those are cooking/warming, in a small pan melt the butter. Once it is completely melted, slowly stir in the flour and cook for about 5 minutes until it is golden brown. This is your roux to thicken the gumbo. Slowly stir the roux into your pot of gumbo at a slow boil. Add the Old Bay and a few dashes of Tabasco. Cook for about 5 more minutes and then it's ready!
