- Place berries in a large saucepan or Dutch oven. Bring to a boil over high heat then reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes.
- Use a potato masher to crush berries then stir in tree fruit.
- Add sugar in a steady stream, stirring constantly. Increase heat to high and bring to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly to dissolve sugar.
- Reduce heat and boil rapidly, stirring often and reducing heat further has mixture thickens, for about 12 to 14 minutes or until mixture reaches a soft, jam like consistency.
- Test for doneness.
- Remove from heat and stir in rum. Skim off foam if needed.
- Ladle into prepared jars leaving a 1/4" headspace. Process jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Adjust time according to your altitude.
