Round Steak In Rich Gravy

Ingredients

  • 3  lbs beef round steak (top round, bottom round or sirloin tip, 1" thick)
  • 13 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3  tablespoons shortening
  • 1 (1 1/2ounce) envelope  dry onion soup mix
  • 12 cup water
  • 1 (10 1/2ounce) can  condensed cream of mushroom soup

Directions

  1. Sprinkle one side of meat with half the flour; pound in with meat mallet.
  2. Turn meat and pound in remaining flour.
  3. Cut meat into 6 to 8 serving pieces.
  4. Melt shortening in large skillet; brown meat in shortening over medium heat, about 15 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle onion soup mix over meat.
  6. Mix water and mushroom soup; pour over meat.
  7. Cover tightly; simmer 1-1/2 to 2 hours or until tender.
  8. Place meat on warm platter.
  9. Heat remaining gravy mixture to boiling, stirring constantly; pour over meat.
