Rhonda's Mississippi Mud Brownies

Ingredients
cake
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 cup butter
- 1⁄2 cup shortening
- 1 cup water
- 3 teaspoons cocoa
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
icing
- 1⁄2 cup butter
- 3 teaspoons cocoa
- 6 teaspoons milk
- 1 (8 ounce) box powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Directions
- Cake:
- sift together flour, sugar, and salt -- mix well.
- in a saucepan, bring to a boil butter , shortening, water and cocoa.
- pour over dry ingredients and sugar mixture.
- in another bowl beat eggs, soda, buttermilk and vanilla.
- add to other mixture and mix well.
- bake in greased and floured sheet cake pan @350 20-25 minute.
- icing:
- mix butter, cocoa, milk in a saucepan. heat over low heat but do not boil. remove from heat.
- and add sugar, nuts, and vanilla -- mix well.
- frost cake as soon as it's baked. pour over cake -- yum.
