Raisin Cookies

Ingredients
- 2 cups raisins
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup Crisco shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 3⁄4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄2 teaspoon allspice
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Cover raisins with water.
- Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.
- Do not drain. Cool.
- Cream shortening and sugar.
- Add eggs and beat well; stir in vanilla.
- Add boiled raisins AND THEIR WATER, plus 1/4 cup additional water.
- Combine dry ingredients.
- Add to creamed mixture, a little at a time, stirring after each addition.
- Stir in the nuts.
- Drop onto a greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes.
