Pizza Roll

Got this idea from a friend. Big hit with my family. Makes a great appetizer or a main dish for a casual evening. Lots of variations can be done with this recipe. I usually make 2 different kinds. Show more

Serves: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 1  package  pizza dough, 65grams (best used at room temp)
  •  flour, for rolling out dough
  • 5  hot Italian sausages
  • 1  large  red  sweet red pepper (cut into small pieces)
  • 4  cups mozzarella cheese (grated)
  • 1  jar  pizza sauce, 8oz
  •  olive oil
  •  salt and pepper
  •  garlic powder

Directions

  1. Take casing off sausages.
  2. break sausages into small bits and fry.
  3. When almost cooked add the red pepper and fry for a few minutes.
  4. set aside after draining fat.
  5. Roll out dough onto floured counter.
  6. Roll as thin as possible.
  7. Spread the sausage mixture evenly over the entire surface of the dough.
  8. Add the grated cheese over the sausage.
  9. Roll the dough so it looks like a small rolled up towel.
  10. Lift onto a greased cookie sheet.
  11. It will be to long so you will have to place it on the sheet like a horseshoe.
  12. Rub dough lightly with olive oil.
  13. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  14. Cook at 375 for 35-40 minutes or until dough is golden and cooked through.
  15. Let cool 10 mins before cutting. Cut into slices and serve with heated pizza sauce for dipping.
  16. Use whatever ingredients you like. NOTE: if using fresh mushrooms be sure to precook them somewhat in the microwave first as they contain a lot of water.
