Peanut Chocolate Whirls

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening, peanut butter and sugar.
  2. Add egg, milk and vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture.
  4. Turn onto lightly floured surface; roll into a 16 inch by 12 inch rectangle.
  5. Melt chocolate chips; cool slightly.
  6. Spread over dough to within 1/2 inch of edges.
  7. Tightly roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side.
  8. Wrap in plastic wrap; refrigerate for up to 30 minutes.
  9. Unwrap and cut into 1/4 inch slices.
  10. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
  11. Bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
  12. Remove to wire racks to cool.
