Peanut Butter Brownies

From the 1961 "Lutheran Favorites" of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, Minnesota. Submitted by Mrs. August Speigner. This recipe contains no leavening. I love peanut butter so I can't wait to try these!

Ingredients

• 1⁄2 cup peanut butter
• 2  tablespoons shortening
• 1 1⁄4 cups brown sugar, packed
• 2  eggs
• 1⁄2 cup flour
• 1⁄4 teaspoon salt

Directions

1. Cream shortening, peanut butter, and add sugar.
2. Mix in remaining ingredients.
3. Place in greased 8 x 11 or 8 inch square pan.
4. Bake 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees.
5. Cut in bars and roll in powdered sugar if desired or frost thin with almost any kind of frosting.
