Orange Drops

This is a drop cookie recipe that my Grandmother and Mother made. I continue to make it to this day! Great with coffee in the morning too! Show more

Yields: 36 cookies

Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients

  • 2  cups flour
  • 12 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 teaspoon baking powder
  • 12 teaspoon salt (I use kosher)
  • Wet Ingredients

  • 23 cup shortening
  • 34 cup sugar
  • 1  egg
  • 2  tablespoons orange zest
  • 12 cup  orange juice (I use freshly squeezed)
  • Icing

  • 2 12 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 12 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 12 teaspoons  orange juice (I use freshly squeezed, sometimes I have to add a bit more)
  • 2  teaspoons orange zest

Directions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients and set aside.
  2. Mix wet ingredients in a stand mixer (or hand-held mixer).
  3. Mix in the dry ingredients with the wet.
  4. Drop the cookies using a small scoop and bake at 400 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Mix up the icing and, once the cookies are cooled, ice and enjoy!
