Old Time New England Fish Chowder

Ingredients
- 4 slices bacon, diced
- 2 medium onions, diced
- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1⁄2-1 green pepper, diced
- 1 cup water
- 1 lb frozen cod fish fillet, diced
- 1 potato, cubed
- 1 quart milk
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1⁄3 tablespoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon parsley
- 1⁄2 cup oatmeal
- 6 squares saltines
Directions
- Cook onions, celery, carrots and green pepper in bacon until soft.
- Add water, fish, potatoes, milk, butter, salt, pepper, parsley, oatmeal and saltines.
- Cook very slowly for 1 1/2 hours.
- Serve with salad and bread.
