  1. Simmer the raisins and water in saucepan over low heat, until plump, 20 to 30 minute Drain raisin liquid into measuring cup. Add water to make ½ cup. Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in raisin liquid.
  3. Blend flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices. Stir into wet ingredients. Add oats, nuts and raisins. Drop rounded teaspoons full onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 6 to 7 dozen.
