Nutty Chocolate Squares

When can you have too many cookies? (especially when they're this good)

  1. For crust: Preheat oven to 375F (190C).
  2. Butter 9 x 13 inch pyrex baking dish.
  3. Sift flour, sugar and cocoa together into a large bowl.
  4. Add butter and cut into flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal.
  5. Pat into bottom of prepared pan.
  6. Bake pastry until edges begin to colour slightly, about 20 minutes.
  7. Cool.
  8. Maintain oven temperature.
  9. For topping: Melt butter in saucepan over low heat.
  10. Add honey, brown sugar and vanilla.
  11. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  12. Cool slightly.
  13. Beat egg in a small bowl to blend.
  14. Beat in whipping cream.
  15. Stir into butter mixture.
  16. Mix in walnuts.
  17. Spread topping over crust.
  18. Bake 10 minutes.
  19. Sprinkle chocolate over topping.
  20. Continue baking until topping bubbles and is golden-brown around edges, about 15 minutes.
  21. Cool completely.
  22. Cut into 2 inch squares.
