Ingredients
Michigan Sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1⁄4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- salt
- pepper
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
Assembly
- hot dog (steamed or grilled)
- hot dog bun (steamed or grilled)
- yellow mustard
- chopped onion
Directions
- In a medium frying pan, heat the oil; saute the onion over medium heat until it softens.
- Add all the remaining sauce ingredients except ground beef; stir well, and heat.
- Crumble the ground beef into the mixture, stirring well to break up the meat.
- Simmer over low heat for 30-40 minutes, or until mixture thickens.
- Assembly--place hot dogs in buns; top with Michigan Sauce, mustard, and onion.
- Serve immediately.
