This is my absolute favorite dessert. This particular recipe is from a New Mexican cookbook. The book was from a local nursing home and has hundreds of tried and true recipes written by the patients. My Grandmother have it to me. It's one of my treasures. Show more

  1. Separate eggs. Mix egg yolks, flour, sugar, cinnamon and 1/2 cup milk together. Beat egg whites until stiff. While constantly stirring, heat up the rest of milk (3 1/2c) until boiling point but not actually boiling.
  2. Once milk is heated add egg yolk mixture and boil while you're still stirring. Mixture will thicken (make sure the flour is cooked. Remove from heat add vanilla and gently fold into egg whites. It will look lumpy. Finish with as much nutmeg as desired. Serve hot or cold. Enjoy!
