My Favorite Banana Bread

I've been making this for years. Walnuts could be added in place of some of the chocolate chips if desired. We prefer ours as written, recipe title says it all. Show more

Yields: 20 pieces

Ingredients

  • 12 cup butter, softened
  • 1  cup sugar
  • 2  large eggs
  • 1  cup  mashed banana
  • 2  cups flour, unsifted
  • 1  teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 12 cup buttermilk
  • 12  ounces  semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (adjust temperature down by up to 25 degrees if using dark metal pans).
  2. Cream butter, sugar and eggs with electric mixer until light and fluffy, Stir in bananas.
  3. Combine dry ingredients. At low speed gradually add alternately with buttermilk until smooth.
  4. Stir in chocolate chips by hand.
  5. Spoon into 2 greased loaf pans.
  6. Bake 45-55 minutes, or until cake tester comes out clean.
