Mom's "swiss Steak"

This was always one of our favorites growing up. It is now one of my own family's favorites, too!

Serves: 4-5

Ingredients

  • 4 -5  pieces  round steaks (in single serving pieces)
  • 2 (10 1/2ounce) cans  condensed tomato soup (or 1 large family size can)
  • 1  small carrot, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1  small onion, sliced
  • 1 -2  cup water
  •  salt and pepper
  •  cornstarch

Directions

  1. In a skillet, brown meat on both sides. When browned, add soup, carrot, onion and water.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Lower heat and simmer about 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until meat is tender.
  4. Use cornstarch and a small amount of cold water to make a slurry.
  5. Remove meat from skillet and add slurry. Stir until thickened.
  6. Serve gravy over mashed potatoes.
