Mom's Fried Walnuts

Ingredients
- 4 cups walnut halves
- 1⁄2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 quarts water
- vegetable oil
- salt
Directions
- Preheat oil in a stock pot to 350 degrees (medium high heat).
- In a large stock pot boil water. Add Walnut halves and boil for 1 minute. Drain walnuts in a colander and rinse with very hot water.
- In a large bowl, gently stir walnuts with sugar until sugar dissolves. Let stand for 5 minutes if necessary.
- Fry walnuts in hot oil until golden brown (about 5 minutes). Drain walnuts and sprinkle slightly with salt.
