Mom's Favorite Lasagna

This is a recipe handed down from my dear mother. She adapted this recipe from an old cookbook of hers and it has been a family favorite for years! My husband and kids like more meat, so I do use a full pound of both the ground beef and Italian sausage. Show more

  1. Brown sausage and hamburger with onion and garlic in large frying pan; drain.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce, water and spaghetti sauce mix. Simmer 30 minutes or until slightly thickened.
  3. While sauce cooks, boil lasagna noodles. adding a tablespoon of oil to the water to prevent sticking.
  4. In large bowl, beat eggs slightly; mix in cottage cheese and mozzarella cheese.
  5. Line bottom of 9x13 baking pan with a layer of drained noodles.
  6. Cover with 1/3 of the meat mixture and 1/3 of the cheese mixture.
  7. Repeat to make 2 more layers of each, ending with the cheese mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  8. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
