I loved when my Mom would make this for us on a cold day. Now I make it for my family.

Directions

  1. Cut steak into serving sizes, removing fat.
  2. Spray medium size casserole dish that has lid with some nonstick spray and set aside.
  3. Heat some oil in a skillet.
  4. Mix flour with some salt and pepper; coat steak in this mixture.
  5. Brown in oil on both sides in the skillet.
  6. Place browned steak in the casserole dish.
  7. Saute the onions in the skillet until just softened, picking up some brown bits from bottom of pan.
  8. Add beef broth to pan and scrape up all the brown bits stuck to bottom.
  9. Heat until it comes to a boil.
  10. Note: You can use a flour slurry (flour dissolved in water) to thicken the gravy at this point if you choose to do so.
  11. Pour onions and broth on top of steak in casserole dish.
  12. Cover and bake in 400 degree Fahrenheit oven for 1 to 1-1/2 hours, until tender.
