Molasses Cookies

This recipie was cut out of a 1939 gas company flyer in Wisconsin by my grandma Bramucci. Our family has made them, usually around the holidays, ever since. Show more

Yields: 24-36 cookies

  1. Cream together bacon fat and sugar.
  2. Add hot water, molasses, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
  3. Stir flour in 1 cup at a time until all is thoroughly blended.
  4. Chill dough at least 1 hour.
  5. Flour rolling surface.
  6. Roll chilled dough to 1/2" thick.
  7. Cut with large round cookie cutter or juice glass.
  8. Grease foil-covered cookie sheets.
  9. Bake at 275 for 10 minutes.
  10. Mix powdered sugar with small amount of water until spreading consistency is reached.
  11. Frost cookies with glaze.
