Marty Family Bread and Sausage Stuffing

This is our family's traditional Thanksgiving turkey stuffing that I've been helping my Mom make since I was a little girl (and I guess the same stuff she grew up on too). This will work with about any size turkey; the cooking time really depends on your bird. Quick, easy, and IMHO, delicious! Also great on a sandwich the next day (if you're lucky enough to have any left) with some cranberry sauce. Hope you enjoy it! Show more

  • 1  loaf  day-old white bread, torn into pieces
  • 1  lb bulk pork sausage (we use Jimmy Dean Regular)

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients and mix well (I use my hands).
  2. Stuff both turkey openings (neck and rear end) of your turkey with stuffing and cover the stuffed openings with turkey skin (we use skewers to hold the skin in place). Don't be afraid to really press the stuffing in to make it all fit.
  3. Bake turkey according to its package directions.
  4. When turkey is done, remove stuffing to a separate bowl.
  5. Refrigerate leftovers.
